Now it’s time to put is all together. Below we will consider an example of two planets aspecting each other.
This might seem a bit complicated as we will be looking at the energies of one planet in a particular zodiac sign and particular house interacting with another planet in a different zodiac sign and different house. If you start getting lost, it is OK. It took me two years of studying astrology full time before I was able to get my brain wrapped around all of this – especially when there are four or five planets all interacting together. Here we will just give an example of two planets interacting.
We will be referring to the natal chart below.
Example of a Natal (Birth) Chart
The example we will do is depicted in the natal chart above. We will interpret the Sun
in Pisces
in the fifth house trine
Uranus
in Cancer
in the 9th house. See if you can find these two planets in the chart above.
Referring to the natal chart, one of the energies is represented by the Sun
in Pisces
in the fifth house. The Sun
is the core energy of a person and is how the person wants to come out in this world. Pisces
gives the Sun characteristics which are compassionate, spiritual, and idealistic. The fifth house represents the area in life around creativity and fun. Putting this all together can have many interpretations – and one of them is - a person, who at his core
is compassionate and idealistic
in creative ways (fifth house). That is a constructive use of those energies. A less constructive way these energies could play out is a person who spends a lot of time
daydreaming
and is constantly seeking pleasure (5th house). Same energies, different maturity levels. So, that is one of the two energies. which are aspected.
The other energy is Uranus
in Cancer
in the 9th house. Uranus
is the part of a person that wants the freedom to be who he/she really wants to be and to help groups and organizations do the same. Cancer
gives Uranus characteristics of strong feelings and intuition. The 9th house is the area in life outside your normal bounds which includes long distance travel and big picture thinking. Putting is all together could play itself out as a person who travels to other parts of the world (9th house) helping people find ways to overcome things holding themselves back
in a way that is consistent with their instincts
. That is a constructive use of these energies. A not so constructive way to use these energies is a person who is rebellious
, gets emotional
and runs away without thinking about the bigger picture (9th). Same energies, different maturity levels.
The trine
signifies an easy flow of energy between the planets.
Combining all of this, we could have a situation where the person desires
to have freedom
to explore widely (9th) in creative and fun ways (5th house) with an approach that is sensitive
and compassionate
. We could also on the other hand have a situation where the person is constantly
daydreaming
about far away places (9th house) where where the constraints of everyday life do not exist
and life is full of pleasure (5th house) and peace
. Again, these are different uses of the same energy combinations.
Those are the basics of the natal (birth) chart. The planets are the actors, their associated Zodiac Signs are the characteristics of the planets, the houses are the areas of life in with the planets energy is emphasized, and the aspects indicate the planets whose energies interact with each other.
The natal chart is a depiction of the lifetime energies carried by a person. As a person’s life progresses, the person evolves by learning to use these energies in ways that are constructive and helpful, and spends less time using the energies in unhelpful ways. It’s one big life-time learning process. Some people choose to stay on a steep learning curve most of their lives while others seem to reach a plateau until significant events occur.
Either way, the timing of these significant events can be inferred by the transit chart – which is the next topic.
